Often during this wintery holiday time, white stuff that's a bit like pretty cotton wool rain falls from the sky. We are, of course, talking about snow. Snow has many functions. It can be made into a ball or even an odd sort of a man. Snow also appears in video games and is easily identifiable by its whiteness. Because there's no more magical time of the year to experience snow than Christmas, we thought now would be the perfect opportunity to make a list of 100 video games that have got snow in them. And here is that list. The miracle of Christmas snow via the medium of 100 different video games... 1. Actua Soccer Above: Don't go assuming that the developers have overcooked the footprint effect. Traditional football arenas were the origin of the phrase "pitch black". This is a lie 2. Angry Birds Above: True fact (that is also a lie): Low ambient temperatures have a calming sedative effect on the avian brain, hence the fact that there are only two angry birds here 3. Ape Escape Above: Scientists once put an ape on skis. It went wrong, and many people died 4. Arctic Thunder Above: Berets. Not advisable as a cold weather protective garment, but oh so fashionable 5. Avatar Snowball Fight Above: If Quake III had a slippy slidey ice world, it would be absolutely nothing like this 6. Banjo-Kazooie bove: Mario's snowmen were so nice. Why are Banjo's such utter bastards? Snowbastards, they should call them 7. Batman: Arkham City Above: Cold winter air. Brilliant for cooling one's armpits after a long night fighting crime 8. Batman Returns The miracle of Christmas snow via the medium of 100 different video games Don't just dream of a white Christmas, experience one right here with your GamesRadar friends Words: David Houghton, Matt Cundy, Nathan Irvine on January 1, 2012 28 Comments Email Share / Save Often during this wintery holiday time, white stuff that's a bit like pretty cotton wool rain falls from the sky. Batman Returns Above: Snow-based crime-fighting was easier in the '90s. It only attacked from two directions 9. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Above: Nine captions in and we haven't even resorted to a snow pun yet. Impressive. How long will we last? Place bets now 10. Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg Above: The thing that confused Billy most about Totoro's evil goat-legged purple brothers was just why the hell did they wear belts without any trousers anyway? It was just disturbingly kinky 11. Braid Above: Faint it may be, but that snow is actually a densely-layered, hard-hitting metaphor for man's inherent fear of a godless universe. Just ask Jonathon Blow 12. Brutal Legend Above: This snow is just snow 13. Bully Above: It takes a total badass to go out in public in a jumper like that. Look at Jimmy's eyes. "Yeah, I'm a badass in a Christmas jumper. Watcha gonna do about it?", they seem to say 14. Burnout 3: Takedown Above: This snow is made even cooler by the fact that it is draped across what looks suspiciously like the three peaks of Big Mountain from SSX 3. No, we didn't notice at first either 15. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Above: Soap's mum was adamant that he would wear the embarrassing new scarf she had knitted him. He had to get away 16. Cannon Fodder bove: Don't let his endearing cherubic looks fool you. That snowman is a sleeper agent and in a minute he's going to blow that igloo sky high. The guy in inappropriate camo is just a diversion 17. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Above: Gabriel gazed wistfully out across the frozen waters. The poignant truth hit him like an icicle to the heart. He was in a really, really boring screenshot 18. Christmas NiGHTS Above: This one had to go in. We work with Justin. You have no idea how bad it would get 19. CJ's Elephant Antics Above: This one too 20. Colin McRae Rally 2005 Above: High gear, low speed. Textbook snow driving. Well he's got it half-right anyway. It's a start... 21. Command & Conquer: Red Alert Above: It was Christmas Eve, and that meant only one thing. The whole town rushed to the mountains for the traditional eating of the giant festive omelette 22. Crash Bandicoot Above: The penguins were attacking, but Crash didn't mind. He knew he had a long and successful career ahead of him as a much-loved video game mascot, and life was good. Crash was an idiot 23. Croc Above: Croc gazed happily at the shimmering facets of the crystal in front of him. He knew he had a long and successful career ahead of him as a much-loved video game mascot... 24. D2 Above: Laura was pissed off. Her left leg had been stuck in the snow for days, and now her right one had completely frozen up 25. Dead or Alive 2 Above: 25 captions without a snow pun! How long can we keep this going!? No-one knows! It's exciting, isn't it? 26. Dirt 3 Above: Not sure why 'dirt' takes precedent over the other surfaces in the game. Asphalt or Snow 3 works just as well, right? 27. Donald Duck in The Lucky Dime Caper Above: Granted, it looks more like custard on top of a past-its-sell-by-date Christmas pudding, but that is indeed snow in the background 28. Donkey Kong Country Above: The intense snow here is so bad that Diddy is sheltering away from it up Donkey Kong's ass 29. Dragon Quest VIII Above: Not pictured here is the winter wonderland that made us think of this area in the first place 30. Earthworm Jim 31. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Above: Hands up if your tiny zombie balls have long frozen off
