Some new free and premium DLC has been released for Ryse: Son of Rome’s multiplayer, Microsoft has confirmed. As detailed over on Xbox Wire, the free DLC adds two level events to Gladiator mode; new enemy turrets and reward statues.

“As you slay barbarians in the arena, two new level events will occur randomly across a variety of maps,” explains the post. “In the first, a new enemy turret will appear and bombard your Gladiator with deadly arrows until destroyed. In the second, Reward Statues of Roman deities will emerge from the sands and can be activated as a one-time bonus to boost your Gladiator’s Health or Focus.”

Meanwhile, the premium DLC comes in the form of the Colosseum Pack, which adds new arenas and gladiator skins to the mix. The arenas are called Henge and Ascension.

“Henge tasks Gladiators with seizing an ancient forest shrine from hordes of barbarians and securing it for Rome,” says Microsoft. In Ascension, “combatants must fight their way through the burning embers of Hades' lair up to the lavish surface world.”

Two new Gladiator skins allow players to “don the opulent golden breastplate of Commodus, the twisted son of Emperor Nero, or the battle-tested armor of a Roman Centurion.”

The Collosseum Pack costs $3.99, or is free as part of the game's Season Pass.

We were pleasantly surprised by Ryse: Son of Rome’s multiplayer. It may not break any new ground, but it’s fun and the combat is ultra chunky and satisfying. In fact so is the rest of the game, despite what other outlets may have you believe
