    The next Xbox won't contain a physical disc drive, according to a new report.

    A source close to British trade magazine MCV claims that Microsoft revealed this information under what it described as "the strictest NDA" they have ever encountered.

    While the console will not contain a disc drive, according to the source, the report suggests it will contain "some sort of interchangeable solid-state card storage, although it is not known whether this will be proprietary or a more standard format such as SD."

    MCV is also claiming that a 2013 release window for the hardware has been confirmed.

    A move to digital-only distribution would be extremely unconventional for Microsoft; if there is any truth to this report, it would be a major blow for traditional retail. Microsoft has yet to officially deny the story.

    In response to the report, Microsoft has said, "We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention. Beyond that we do not comment on rumors or speculation."

    i do belive that i have heard they bought the rights for the blueray drive from sony at 6 million dollars but i maybe wrong and tbh if it contains no disc drive, the modders ate going to be happy cuz id persume would be easier to play back up games my oppion

    you mean Hard Drive and it will Microsoft make millions in selling there Hard Drives and they have already said there next consoles will come in several different sizes ranging from the very small like the 360slim that came with a 4GB which 90% of the people who bought tha ended up buying a 250GB HD it will come with a DVD Drive and it will come with a internal removeable Hard drive mate I'll put money on it, I read this last week and its from a bullpoop site

    change the topic name because everyone will think you mean DVD drive Physical disc drive is the hard drive

    physical disc drive isn't a DVD drive its a hard drive its the correct name for a hard drive and it will come with a removable hard drive because M$ make millions from them and they won't stop that

    although we may not use the DVD/Whatever-ROM drive much ...
    but it's still nice to have....


    so that we could watch DVD/BluRay/MKV-rip :D

    it will actually make it easier for the modders to modders can do something like the xk3y did have games run on external HDD
