Mark Super Mario Bros' 25th anniversary in style We heard last week about an all-red version of the Nintendo Wii launched in Japan to mark the 25th anniversary of gaming legend Super Mario Bros. Now comes the even better news that the limted edition console will be coming to the UK too. The Mario-honouring Wii will come not only in a distinctive colour scheme – which covers not only the console itself but also the bundled Wii Remote plus and nunchuk – but will also have New Super Mario Bros Wii, Wii Sports and the original 1981 version of Donkey Kong preloaded – which saw Mario make his official gaming debut. Of course, its Super Mario Bros itself that saw Mario and his brother Luigi make their names, and the special touches on the anniversary version of the game include the coin blocks having the number 25 on them. We’re waiting on a UK price for the red Mario Wii – thus far all we know is it’ll be retailing for the equivalent of £150 in Japan – but we have been given a local launch date of October 29 to go on.
