Non-game content not the priority for Sony's next console
While PS4 will be capable of multimedia content delivery, Sony boss Kaz Hirai has firmly stated that the new machine is "first and foremost a video game console".

Hirai asserted Sony's focus on next-gen gaming during talks at the D11 conference today.
"The most important thing we need to do is agree and understand that the PS4 is a great video game console that appeals to video gamers," he said. "If we miss that part, I don't think we get the initial establishment of the console.

That formula has worked for us with all our consoles, including the PS3."
Hirai's comments no doubt come in relation to Microsoft's Xbox One reveal, at which the firm pitched the console as an all-in-one entertainment device and focused heavily on its multimedia delivery while providing little insight into its gaming capabilities. The firm later pledged that its E3 press briefing on June 10 will focus on Xbox One games.

Conversely, Sony's PS4 reveal spotlighted gaming with several titles showed running for the first time, and this is a focus Sony plans to continue heading into the console's launch, according to Hirai.
"Providing other non-game content is an area we will reveal and talk about in the coming months," he said, "but it's first and foremost a video game console."

Sony announced the PS4 back in February with a launch of 'holiday 2013'.

Xbox One was revealed at an event on May 21, when Microsoft confirmed a launch for 'later this year'.
