Despite an earlier report saying the company might bring its software to smartphones to coax more people into buying its hardware, an official statement says it isn't true.

Nintendo won't be bringing Mario an Luigi minigames to smartphones, after all.
In a statement to Engadget on Tuesday, Nintendo denied an earlier report suggesting that it would offer minigames of its popular franchises on smartphones to promote its own hardware. The company, however, does plan to use "smart devices to promote our products."

"However during such past announcements Mr. Iwata has also stated that Nintendo's intention is not to make Nintendo software available on smart devices and as such, we can confirm that there are no plans to offer mini-games on smartphone devices," Nintendo told Engadget.
The statement comes after Nikkeei reported that Nintendo's original franchises would be coming to mobile devices. The company could provide everything from minigames to background stories, the report indicated. The report set off a firestorm in the gaming community, which has watched Nintendo stubbornly stick to its own products and services and not venture out.
Nintendo might need to think about changing its strategy. The company earlier on Wednesday announced worrisome financials, including a 30 percent decline in profits and lower Wii U sales than in 2012.
