Need help asap please!

    Ok so a few weeks back I posted that my jtag got two red lights, to which everyone told me a had to re apply the termal paste and all that. So i have done that and looking for advice on the next step, e.g overheating or something else. Please help I am a total noob when it comes to this.

    Overheat the console with the fan unplugged.

    Would of been better doing a reflow with a heatgun but gotta be careful to cover the board correctly and stuff ;)

    as evo said,disconnect the fan cable and switch on you console and let it run for afew mins.

    Thanks for the advice lads. Got it going again just tested on tomb raider and the fans are not going ott lol. Will test again tomorrow and let you know how it gets on.

    i am amazed people would recommend these methods! those are temp fixes at best and will not last. heating a motherboard by unplugging your fan or using the towel trick is not recomended at all! get your motherboard reflowed by somebody who knows what they are doing if you want your system to continue working properly in the future.

    p.s. when i say get your machine reflowed, i mean actually have it reflowed with a machine not a heat gun. (they are only a few hundred dollars, depending upon the model).

    Do the x2 red lights come on soon after start up, or is it after the console has been running for a while?

    When you get the x2 red lights, are the heatsinks hot or cold?

    If the red lights come on straight after turning on your unit and the heat sinks do not feel hot, then the heat sinks are not making proper contact with the chips. If you have done the RROD fix then you will need to try to redo the fix , ensuring that you tighten all of the screws equally and that the washers are the right size.
    If the consle gets 2 red lights after a couple of minutes and the heatsinks feel hot to the touch remove the x-clamps, clean off the old paste add reapply new thermal paste. You could also reflow the motherboard as well, but i would try the above methods first.

    Hi all just thought I would post back with results. Well thanks to everyone one's comment I have followed them all and can say this has to be the best site on the web. Just the little comments have made the difference. After fixing my Jtag last night I thought what about my old three red lights console? So following the same comments now have my Jtag back and another Xbox as well!
    Much appreciated guys plus rep for all.
