An F/A-18 jet crashed Friday in a civilian area in Virginia Beach, Va., the U.S. Navy confirmed to NBC News. The official confirms that both pilots on board ejected and that two parachutes were spotted. There are no immediate reports of casualties on the ground but the official says they suspect there will be injuries or casualties. There were unconfirmed reports that the aircraft hit an apartment building. WAVY-TV helicopter cameras pictured heavy spoke billowing from the vicinity of the downed jet. State and local police were on the scene to assist the military, according to Grazia Moyers, spokeswoman for the Virginia Beach Police Department, NBC affiliate station WAVY reported.
