leveling in system link halo 4

    Hi everyone , i am new hear as you can see, but fort i will ask for some of your expertise as it is really bugging me.
    I play halo 4 via system link , i seem to be leveling up ok as i am sr12 , but whenever i am sat in a match lobby, or go into a game it says i am sr1 ?????
    am i doing summin wrong or just being stupid? (i am new to halo as u can tell)

    it doesnt work the same !!! you cant level up like this in halo 3 it had the same thing
