Cast your mind back to last year pre Xbox One launch and you may recall a project Microsoft unveiled named 'Illumiroom' which was announced April 2013. IllumiRoom is a proof-of-concept system from Microsoft Research. "It augments the area surrounding a television screen with projected visualizations to enhance the traditional living room entertainment experience." said Microsoft when the feature was first announced.

After the initial proof of concept not much more was released about Illumiroom and we were left wondering if it was dead in the water, until now that is. Microsoft have announced Illumiroom V2 which is like Illumiroom's big brother.
Microsoft have released a video showing how RoomAlive will use projectors and Kinect to turn a whole room into a gaming experience. You may well have seen similar hardware setups at places such museums or theaters but its unlikely we will see Roomalive in living rooms for a while largely due to the fact that the setup is to big and too costly. Microsoft is working on scaling both size and cost of the hardware used for RoomAlive.

You can watch the RoomAlive trailer here.
