The PS4 is now running Linux, this was demonstrated by hacking group Fail0verflow. A video has been released which clearly shows a PS4 console booting into Linux. According to Fail0verflow the Marvell engineers who designed the southbridge were smoking some real good stuff. They claim that the engineers reinvented the PCI their own way! At the demonstration the hack was explained, aptly named Penguins on Aeolia! It's A PC ... Except it isn't. Code: fail0verflow@ps4:-/linux:ps4 -$ git diff 4.4-rc6 | grep -v CONFIG_ | wc -l 7443 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A7V3GLWF6U Achievement Unlocked: NOP command is broken on the GPU (But at least it's a Radeon) 16MB of VRAM ain't enough for everybody. (Unified memory is hard) CODENAMES Code: dce_ ihedf_get_info_crtc_linea_liverpool "LVP A0" SrarshaAsicStateRegInfo THJStarsha AGESAThebeJBDK Nobody (not even Sony/AMD) agrees on the APU codename We're calling it Liverpool At least the southbridge is always Aeolia WORKING Timers,IRQs,PCI shenanigans Serial Port Framebuffer Kernal Modesetting HDMI encoder Ethernet (mostly, 1Gbps only) WiFi Bluetooth S/PDIF Audio (Optical) Blinkenlights WIP 3D Acceleration USB (and HDD, which is USB!!!) HDMI Audio UNTESTED SATA AHCI (Blu-Ray) KERNAL PATCES COMING SOON Plus custom bootstrap code Although some way off of seeing anything for end users, Fail0verflow have certainly paved the way for others to begin work. https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/0e16e4cfde70e1cf00f9fe3a8f601d10e73e0ec6
Does this mean a hacking group, will put up a video showing an xbox 1 booting to a windows os, I hope so.

Yep this is good news ps3 started with Linux then exploded when other people got the hands on the codes they needed This defo looks promising
