Today some of the biggest names in video game production and regulation will meet at the White House for a discussion on what I assume is "violence in video games", and the question of whether games lead to violence in reality. It has not been explicitly stated that gun violence in games is on the agenda for today's meeting, but it is likely given the recent school shooting in Florida, Trumps reaction, and the list of attendees that was just released: Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) Representative Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) Representative Martha Roby (R-AL) Strauss Zelnick, CEO Take-Two Interactive - Parent company of Rockstar Brent Bozell, Media Research Center Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, author of “Assassination Generation: Video Games, Aggression, and the Psychology of Killing” Pat Vance, president of Entertainment Software Rating Board Mike Gallagher, President and CEO of ESA Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of Zenimax - Parent company of Bethesda Melissa Henson, Parents Television Council As a gamer who doesn't want to see the rights and the freedom of expression of games to be stripped away, my immediate reaction to this meeting is frustration and disappointment. However I don't expect this meeting to result in any real change for either games developers or game regulators. This discussion has be had over and over again.... And the US Supreme Court already ruled 7 years ago that video games are protected under the US First Amendment (free speech). This meeting seems more like "lip service" to me: just a display for the many many Americans who want an easy target to blame for gun violence in our country, and who don't want to consider the deeper-rooted and more difficult to change culprits like gun legislation and mental healthcare. Yikes...
Didn't we have this Diskussion back in the early 2000's? People just need to accept the fact that some People aren't right in the head and need to get help and Parents need to act like Parents and watch what their kids are playing instead of just buying them everything such as Mature games cause they can't be bothered with them.
