kinect update??????????

hi there
im using a rgh with freestyle 3.0b Rev775 with kernel 16537 but my kinect wont work ive googled how to apply the update with usb but not working is it safe to download the update straight to the xbox from live if not how the h*** do i update it so my kinect works

now i have kernel 16767 when i plug in my kinect it starts updating i need to know if it will damage my rgh to allow it to do it
