This topic is just a overview of how important the parts in your PC really are and what they are responsible for, this could help you diagnose problems with your PC by reading what it is.

Motherboard - This is the primary board, every component in your PC makes a connection somehow some way through this board. The motherboard holds CMOS which is literally in charge of storing system information, like the clock. Every motherboard is designed the same in a sense however, depending on processors and such, this motherboard is responsible mainly for the compatibility it will have with the rest of your PC.

CPU - Central Processing Unit, this often called the processor, this part of your PC is responsible for performance on hardware, and your software. You will notice when you look at this particular part, it usually has Intel or AMD as those are the two main manufactures for PC's. They come in 32 bit and 64 bit processors, you notice a difference between the 32 bit and 64 bit processors, most PC's now a days come with 64 bit processors, as 32 bit is outdated, 64 bit processors usually come in dual core, quad-core, six core, and eight core, the more cores the more calculations your computer can do per second.

Power Supply - Without this bad baby, your PC wouldn't even manage to turn on, this is the main power for your entire PC. While the motherboard has a CMOS battery on it, it only has enough juice to keep your motherboard running. The power supply comes in several watts, power supplies like power strips become hot, thus why there is almost always a fan built inside of it to keep it at a cooler temperature, however, if you have a good gaming rig like myself, sometimes that just isn't enough to keep the temperature down, thus most gaming cases come prebuilt with 3-4 fans on top to cycle out heat.

RAM - Random Access Memory, while your processor is cooking up and storing information, the RAM acts as the holder, it holds the information and basically feeds it through to the processor. RAM is a vital part of your PC, in-fact you couldn't load any operating systems without it, and most of the time your PC won't even boot up. There are two types of ram out, except for DDR4 which is extremely rare in PC's and most people I know of don't even have that high quality stick of RAM yet, so there are two types, DDR2 and DDR3, you will notice DDR3 is more commonly placed in PC's now a days and that is due to the potential of DDR3 RAM, DDR2 max clock speed or how fast it can operate is 1066 MHz, while DDR3 is 2,133 MHz. RAM is also a vital part in transferring information, DDR2's max transfer rate is 8,533MB/s while DDR3's is usually around 17,067 MB/s as you can tell it's usually double what the other stick can do, and that's true with DDR4 as well.

Drives - You have a hard drive, or a dvd drive or a blu-ray drive it goes on. The one most important drive in your PC is the hard drive, the hard drive is the storage center for your PC, it contains all your files, your operating system, user information, and games.

Graphics Card - The graphics card is the most important item in a list when you're buying or building a computer, they are called PCB's or printed circuit boards, they are the performance by how your games look, your videos look, they send pixels to the display and providing a specific type of processing, and that is the GPU - Graphical processing unit. Most of the time when building a computer this is the single most expensive part of it, usually about 1/3rd of your budget.

Don't forget the flux compacitor lol

But no really, very informative post, but theres ooooooone thing you missed, which is that it's a pain to manage your wires without zip ties... Zip ties are a big part in computer building, they're kinda of a necessity or you're going to spend a few hours trying to get it all looking right :p

I kinda left it out on purpose, as more and more PSU's come out most of them come with items to tie everything together.

I remember my liquid nitrogen experiment build. Saw about it on Youtube, ordered it, and when pouring it where it's supposed to go in the tube directly above the CPU, it decided to bubble out, and freeze part of it, the condensation then fried my board... And that is the story about how I ruined my first motherboard, and lost $580 xD
