Claims of a 4.07 PS4 hardware hack surface

Hacking scene member xmax katsu published a couple of pictures claiming he has a PS4 Hardware hack that works on the PS4’s latest firmware 4.07.

Although he gave few details, the hack allegedly allows to bypass Serial number checks on the Flash memory and the HDD of the PS4. According to xmax katsu, this allows unlimited Primary account share on the PS4. In other words, one account could buy lots of PS4 games, then share this account (and the games associated to it) with an unlimited amount of “Friends”.

Account sharing tricks to enable piracy are not new and seem to be the only way to pirate games on the latest generation of consoles. This is reminiscent of the “brazilian PS4 jailbreak” or the “Indonesian Xbox One hack“, two techniques that allow a given account (and its games) to be shared more than officially allowed by Sony and Microsoft. “Entrepreneurs” across the globe monetize these techniques by selling consoles full of THE SITE THAT CANNOT BE MENTIONED FOR LEGAL REASONS games to their customers.

However, it is difficult to give any credibility to xmax katsu’s work lately. He has been very silent on twitter over the past months, and before that has a track record of various claims for hacks that never saw the light of day or turned out to not be working at all. Here again, the picture could be an elaborate hoax, or the hacker drawing conclusions too soon on some actual technical achievement (e.g. it is possible he has a way to bypass some serial number checks, but that he wrongly implies this could lead to infinite account sharing).



It would of course also be naive to think Sony do not monitor accounts with suspicious activity. Here again, unless you’re prepared to disconnect your PS4 from the network entirely, pirating would seem unwise, even if that technique actually works and gets released. (these two things already being a stretch).​

Not Really Nobody Cares about account Sharing it's all about CFW and Save Editors. Not Downloading Paid Games from other Accounts and Memory Hacks.
