if you really want the job be persistant. call about the job, confirm your application was received, try to get a face to face with the manager/owner if nothing else other than to introduce yourself. always dress professionally even if you are only dropping off an application. work hard on your resume. try to highlight your skills that would make you perfect for the particular position being offered. try to get some letters of recommendation from teachers or principles, deans, department heads, or anyone who can vouch for your professionalism and responsibility and dependability.

What I tend to do is base my CV around each job I apply for, if I'm applying for computer support I'll say my knowledge of IT is basically amazing lol, if I'm applying for a retail job I'll say I'm confident, like to meet new people etc.

always the best way to do it. you don't want to talk about all of your cash handling experience when you are applying for customer support or things like that. you really want to emphasize that you are the perfect candidate for that particular job.

Perfect advice, why? I will tell you:

Times when I have been looking for staff, someone walks in, well dressed only "dropping in" to give us there CV I have interviewed them there and then!
