How to make your own Xbox 360

DVD key.bin

and stock firmware file

when you only have the key stored in a text document.

OK so I have been helping a member who wants to flash their drive to LT+3.0
I made a tutorial for them to follow but they ran into a problem.

Their DVD key wasn't in the form of a key.bin file, they only had their DVD key saved in a text document
and had no way of importing the key to the new firmware.

This is a very simple step by step guide on how to make your own DVD key.bin
and stock firmware file to use when flashing your Xbox 360 DVD drive
if you only have your DVD key saved in a text document.

I believe this will work for all Xbox 360 DVD drives, But I am unsure on if it will work for Hitachi drives.

OK Here I go!

You will need.
  • A blank key.bin file:

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

  • HXD Hex Editing Program:

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

  • Jungleflasher 1.92 Beta (304) + Firmware:

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

  • The Text document you have your DVD key saved to
Be sure to extract the key.bin file and jungle flasher to your desktop and install HxD

Step By Step Guide.
1.Open your text document and highlight the DVD key.
2. Right Click over the highlighted text and click copy.
Posted Image

Now open HxD hex editor and drag the blank key.bin you extracted into HxD.

3. Highlight the hex string.
4. Right click over the highlighted Hex string and select "Paste Insert"
Posted Image

If done correctly you should end up with something similar to the following picture
but containing your DVD key in place of the FF FF FF FF FF string that was there previously.

5. Now click the save Button and close HxD.
Posted Image

6. Open Jungle Flasher and click the "Firmware tool 32" tab
7. Click the "Open Target Firmware" button and locate the stock firmware you require for your drive in the jungleflasher folder.
Posted Image

8.click the "Manual spoofing" button
Posted Image

9. Next click "Load Key.bin" and load the key.bin file you made previously in HxD.
10. Click OK.
Posted Image

Your target buffer should now look something like this
with your DVD key loaded into the new firmware.
Posted Image

11. Now click the "Save to file" button and save your firmware to the same folder as your new key.bin
Posted Image

Congratulations you have just made your own Stock firmware and DVD key.bin file!

You can now use the firmware file and key.bin for flashing your drive to stock
and for use when flashing LT+ firmware.

Remember to Keep your new Firmware and key.bin files safe as they contain your DVD drive details.

I hope this helps and was not to confusing.

Happy flashing Posted Image

Thanks mate.

I made it because the person I have been helping had their LiteOn drive flashed and wanted to update to LT+ 3.0
but the problem was that the guy who flashed it only gave them the key in a text document
and he didn't have a probe to extract a key.bin

I have come across people in the past with the same problem so I thought this would be a good one to help anyone else. :P

Great tutorial.

Thanks for all the help, this will be really useful to others with the same problem.

By this time tomorrow I should be all flashed and up to date (my kit came in the post today but I wasn't in to collect it, have to get it from the depot in the morning).

Just hope the guy gave me the right DVD key in the first place

Thanks again!!

Oh sweet well seeing as you now have a probe now I would suggest to follow my guide completely from beginning to end that way you can extract your own key so you can be sure you have the correct key for your drive.
http://www.xpgamesav...ated-tutorials/http://www.xpgamesav...ated-tutorials/

The X360USB Pro is an awesome tool for connecting SATA devices to your PC being USB connection JungleFlasher will detect your drive pretty much every time.

where as when you use the SATA ports on your motherbord they can be very picky at times
Good luck! and let us know how you get on I am happy ho help if you need it so send me a PM :P

mission complete!

started right at the beginning and extracted my own key using the probe (matched the one I was given).

had to fiddle around with drivers for a bit at first as I am using my sisters laptop which has windows 7 64-bit on it.

once I got going following your step-by-step guide I realised it wasn't difficult at all, especially with the kit I have.

can't wait to do another one now, my nephew has a slim xbox, are they just as easy to open and flash?

thanks again for all your help Ccaveman84. very, very, very much appreciated :D

Sweet man +Rep for your first successful key extract and Flash great job I am glad I could help. :D

Not bad for a first time huh :P

Slims are a little harder I think, I have not done one as of yet I mainly do Phat Xbox's.

but I would suggest having a little read up before attempting a slim and try some different Phat's first to get more used to flashing

as in the Phats alone there are 4 different drives with numerous models and all have different but similar ways of flashing.

I do know that you can extract the slim key easy enough but you need to get a blank PCB from the guys at CK3 as the PCB write protection on the slim was found to be to strong.

So the blank PCB was made to have a write protection switch to enable you to flash the slim and enable/disable the write protection when needed.

I am sure there is someone here that could give you a run through on how to do a slim though.

Guys, would it be possible for anoyone of you to reupload a blank key.bin file somewhere where it would be available? At the moment megaupload is down, so provided key.bin is out of reach for me and I am frustrated of trying to find it anywhere else on the web.. :-(
