Works without drivers, comes with USB cable

Microsoft has announced a new version of the Xbox One controller, which can be used as a wired controller with Windows PCs out of the box without the need to download bothersome drivers from the internet.

The snappily-titled The Xbox One Controller + Cable for Windows is, effectively, a standard wireless Xbox One controller - shove a couple of batteries in the back and you can use it with your console - but it comes packaged with a USB cable, which can be used to transform the controller into a wired controller for either your Xbox or your PC.

What you won't be able to do, for now at least, is it use it wirelessly on your PC. PC gamers who want to play with the Xbox One controller are forever doomed to be shackled to their computer, or at least they are until a dongle comes out, such as it did for the Xbox 360 controller.

While a packaged-in USB cable might seem like a pretty low-tech fix, at least the price is right - in the US, it's listed at $59.95 - the same as a regular Xbox One controller. Might as well go for the free USB cable, am I right?

Exisitng Xbox One owners won't need to shell out on the new pack to connect their controllers to the PC - all you need is a micro USB cable or Play & Charge cable, and the inclination to install some PC drivers by steering your browser in this direction.
