I took the 500GB (incl games) from my JTAG XBOX 360 & connected it to a mac.

But I don't see the HDD in finder. How do I read/write to it?

I don't to reformat it if possible as I don't want to lose the games already on there. Thanks

your best bet being on a mac would be to use FTP, load into aurora or freestyle dash to enable the FTP server ;)

Make sure your Jtag is connected to your network.

Enter your Jtag's IP address which will show in FSD or aurora.

Sorry, I'm a newbie. Is that wireless connecting it? I have connected the HDD via USB to my mac.

For aurora, I just see an alarm app (!). Where do I get freestyle dash?

Im not a mac guy but as far as i know there are no mac apps that will read the hdd via usb. you need a FTP client on your mac, put your hdd back into your jtag and boot it up, it should boot into either the standard dash, xexmenu, aurora or Freestyle Dash.
if it boots to standard xbox dash you will need to install one of the alternative dashboards onto a usb stick so it will start the FTP server.
Once the server is running you can then use your FTP client on your mac to connect to your Jtag.

should work either way as long as the mac and jtag are both connected to the same router/network ;)

If I attach (via SATA adapter) it to a Window (7) PC will it be easier to read /write (i.e. will it show up in explorer)?
