What drives are you trying to open with it?

You have it plugged into onboard SATA or expansion card? Some people having problems using VIA 6421 or similar.

same errors. odd because v2.9.0.345 works & its only the Xbox Backup Creator.exe & Readme XBC.txt in the folder. v2.9.0.350 just has the same 2 files & dont work

heres a few options for you to try:
    1. put a game disc in the drive and then launch XBC as administrator
    2. Plug the drive in first and then restart your PC then as above
    3. Try changing the sata port or sata cable and make sure you goto device manager and "scan for hardware changes"
