Having a error with a Xbox i picked up yesterday for a tenner it claimed to have 3 rrod which is dose, anyway I've completely took it apart removed the old thermal paste with some thermal alcohol remover, applied some new arctic silver 5 and let it overheat to set the paste. I let it cool down for about 20-30 mins booted it up got then green circle as normal got the MS logo then it hung on boot so I rebooted did the same then it booted back to 3rrod again Any ideas on what I can do to get it booting or is it just a waste of a Xbox, to me all the solder points look fine but I'm not a pro so there might be some out.
The error described is a cold solder joint. Reflow will temporarily fix this , and make sure you do the clamp fix properly.
Attempting a re flow now borrowed my gf dads heat gun and I'm using arctic thermal 5 is that no good or something?
I would not recommend using the heat gun method, too easy to over heat and ruin the board. Also reflow will not fix situation it is a temp patch. You can find people in most areas that offer a professional fix for quite cheap. and in the long run would be best, aspecially when playing long sessions.
