To Un-flash, and Re-flash or Not to Un-flash?

    Hello,

I recently got a banned Xbox (phat elite), which was already flashed, off Craigslist. (I have no desire to play on-line anyway, so I didn’t care), but I have tried to play / install newer games like, Battlefield 4 and GTA V, but they get stuck while installing or just won’t play.
(I’m aware of the GTA / Battlefield problems out there)
Also please note, my burns are perfect! Do to all the great advice here, so I KNOW beyond any doubt; there is nothing wrong with the burning process. And I only use Verbatim disc.
It IS the latest Dashboard, (16202), only because of an automatic update on Battlefield 4 and from looking at the disc tray, it looks like it might be a BenQ/Philips type of drive, (I’m going to open it and check anyway, but haven’t as of the time of this writing)

I was reading another person’s similar problem, and came to the conclusion that I might have to “unflash” my Xbox, and then re-flash it again.
I have NO ideal what the firmware or other things are, (yet), because it is only two days old, (as of this writing).
I know I can’t give as much information for the answer to my problem, but only ask you for your advice.
Should I un-flash and re-flash in order to play newer games?

Note: the latest games that I can run is: Saints Row IV / Tomb Raider / Batman Arkham City / Call of Duty Black Ops 2 / Halo 4 / GOW: Judgment
I thought this might make a good reference.
As always, “Thank U 4 any help!”
    HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

do you have another spare laser at al try in it if its on lt3.0 then theres no need to reflash it at all rember a flashed console needs a reliable laser as it has to work harder to play backups also when youre burning games such as gta v if youre using the desktop during the write this can cause read errors i know this as i have done it also .

    Interesting advice, I wasn't sure.
Well, I did open it today to find out more information about it.
It is a BenQ drive and a Falcon motherboard.
Now I do have the other cd-rom drive from my broken Xbox, and as luck would have it, it also it a BenQ as well.
(more than likely I will try to switch them just to see anyway if it works) But I read once you can't do that.

Even on the old system I could not install GTA V though, so I'm puzzled over that.

Extra footnote, just tried to install old cd drive (which is still a BenQ) but it didn't work. Would not read the disc correctly.

benq and liteon laser are the same so of course you can interchange them if youre sure its not the laser maybe a bad rip perhaps not sure unless you canprovide abgx logs / imgburn .

Yeah I had to re-run the Abgx again, but in truth I can't remember if the XEX downloaded. It did this time, (it was in blue)
Do you think that could be my problem? Should I re-burn both disc? I never had any problems at all burning.
Here is the log just now....

If you sware by the burns and the ISO's are patched it only points to the laser not being good enough. Try a pot tweak or buy a new laser. Personally I would first check the discs - ISO then laser. Flas has nothing to do with it, if its recognising the disc then the flash is sound as long as its LT3.0 for the correct drive.

It won't be the laser, seeing as it allows other topology ISO's, the only true way of knowing your burns are 100% is by using kprobe on your discs, you can find the optimal PFI min/max off Google

Thank you all for your advice and help (Sorry Bullet I meant no harm!)
I've tried Kprobe2 and it wasn't the greatest results for the disc, but I believe all points are heading in the fault with the laser.
(Did an another burn on Battlefield 4 yesterday which took over 3.5 hours and check the disc, and it still didn't work).

I may be wrong here but as far as I was aware when they ban an Xbox they mess up the saves on the hard drive and they disable the install to hard drive feature. I didn't think you could install a game to a banned Xbox at all?

thats right mate iif its a full console ban they disable the install feature to completely stop you from using it as far as I know. A few people have said that has happened before, all its good for now is making a RGH out of it and or un ban it

They messed with your saves and install feature years ago, after the kinect dashbaord came out the only thing a banned xbox couldnt do was go online = FACT

Fair enough I knew they did that at one point couldn't see any reason they would stop doing it. I am still yet to have a console banned so I can't speak from experience unfortunately (or luckily depending how you look at it)

May I ask how much memory available on the hard drive? Maybe this has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the problem that you are having. But a few of my friends had the same issue with their GTA V. And we tried everything and cannot figure out why It fully install on my system and not theirs. So I got frustrated and delete everything on one of my friends hard drive and tried it again and IT WORKS. then on my second friend I delete stuff so his hard drive can have at least 16g of memory instead of 8g that was recommended for GTA V and try it again and IT WORKS. So what I'm guessing is that GTA V require 16g and not 8g. LIKE I SAID I might be completely wrong and this might make no sense to others but It work for my friends. This is just something to think about if it's worth thinking about lol. Good luck and hope you figure your issue out. I know it could frustrating but hang in there. You'll figure it out.

No problem, I've got a 120gb drive on it, and you know something, I've tried to install it from the disc, I've tried Horizon (which by the way is on the hard drive by this method, but after the boosting of the cars in the beginning it will cut off, and give a "disc is unreadable". Thanks for the encouragement. I can't understand it though.

So sorry I've taken so long to respond to things, but life in between has kick me in the face as well. (Ain't life fun)
I've always burnt my disc a 2.4 speed and always used Verbatim disc. Since the last time I wrote, I formated my computer, and tried to burn another copy of BF 4 but tried to do the AP 2.5 test, and it failed.
So, (and please correct me if I'm wrong), but I think I do need to update my Flashed firmware. (See I got this off Craigslist and the former owner didn't know what it was), I'm guessing that it is a LT 2.0 and needs to be LT 3.0. Since it is a BenQ it should be very easy to do, BUT I also do not have the original firmware!!
(Now I was wondering about something on that note!) I have my own original firmware from my old broken Xbox that was also a BenQ, I was wondering if I could use that?

You could ask the guy on CL if he has the original firmware, other than that I'm not entirely sure.
