Ok so here's the deal: I bought a second hand xbox 360 and I have no idea which method was used to mod it, but it plays burnt discs. Hints I've gathered so far: - it plays Halo Reach, which is an AP2.5 game, so it has to be some version of LT+, which one I don't know. I Have a Benq drive. - The owner says it ws modded roughly 2 years ago. - Dashboard version 2.0.8955.0 , released October 23, 2009 - It also plays a lot of other games, like FIFA 2011, which was released in 2011 I guess. That's later than when my dashboard version was introduced. I do not want to update to LT+3.0 yet, because it costs money (the actual firmware update and the IHAS burner) So for now I would like to play old xbox 360 games, but could I expand my library of games if I update my dashboard via usb or something? Or does this mean I have to re-flash it? My xbox is already banned so I won't play online. It doesn't matter if I have to re-burn my discs as long as I can do it with my current burner (non-IHAS) Thanks in advance!
you should always update ya drive firmware o latest version, so yeah i wud recommend updateing your drive firmware to lt3.0 and most games coming out now requires an update to newish dashboard, but if your playing old games then i shouldnt see a problem but always always update your firmware
Thanks for your input, but I also said I'm not interested in updating to LT3 at this moment, I was asking if I should update the dashboard version alone. I fully understand I will not be able to play the newer games, but if I could expand the gamelist I could use by updating the dashbord solely that would be great, as it's free.
If you just update the dashboard then you won`t be able to play any games at all as it will remove the current firmware which has been written to the drive.If your gonna update the dashboard then you need to reflash the drive to be able to play back ups again.
Ok thanks I thought I read that somewhere already, but when I searched for it I couldn't find it anymore. Guess I'll have to stick to the older games then if I don't update to newer LT's. Any ideas which games I could play or should I just stay below October 23, 2009 and burn any newer games at my own risk?
Yeah update the dashboard regardless as you will need to anyway Unless its a offline console then it don't matter
I don't fully understand what you are saying. It is an offline console, as it is banned. But if I update the dashboard as you say, I would have to reflash the drive right? I have stated in my original post that I am not interested in that yet. Thing is I might sell it after I have played some old games and buy an original xbox 360 or ps3 even, so I would be throwing away money if I let someone flash the drive (I don't have the tools or the patience to do it myself).
also you can but any old benq in it does not have to have the right dvd key to update they just put your drive back in and its still flashed i always update mine like that saves flashing back to stock every update as long as its a stock drive same as your current one, it could even be broken and the key is irrelevant the dash updates and you slot your working flashed drive back in
if your not botherd about xgd3 then if its not broke dont try and fix it because yes the update from that firmware would re flash the drive if you do want to update it the way i put above worked every time for me

my ihas has jus recently gone bust on me stopped reading discs, and its hard to get hold ov a rev b these days as they are on rev d now. so i got maxburner payload tool n tricked my img burn into thinkin it was 8.5gb n seems to work ok. will do for now till i can get another ihas rev b or get mine fixed
Easiest way to do this is get rid of it and get another 360 that can go online and get the drive flashed once updated and all is good. Don't waste your time on PS3 as they poo
Yeah I probably shouldn't have mentioned ps3 in a xbox subforum lol. My plan is to play the games I want, knowing I cannot play the newer games. And then I'll take it from there, maybe updating or sellling it.
