    Hi,

I hooked up my xbox 360 (original version, modded years ago) after a couple of years. some games now requires new system update. system update gives me a E66 error which is to be expected.

I did a little research and then I tried to use xebuild to refresh my xbox but for some reason I don't get a ping from the xbox even though it's connected to the network.

any ideas? I realize how annoying noob questions can be but I'd appreciate any help.

    thank you

First of all before you start removing drives and trying to replace. Do you have your DVD key or the equipment and know how to get it?

I can't see you having to swap out the drive, just flash it back to stock. Simply replacing the drive with another without flashing will just end you up with an expensive CD player which won't read discs.

Also wouldn't hurt to check your error code to make sure your dvd drive is deinitely the cause, not just the e66 error but the full error code, you do this by holding eject+sync buttons which gives you a 4-digit code, you can find the error code list online.
