Microsoft: Spec Differences are Marginal, We Want More Casual Gamers

In terms of raw power, many industry analysts and hardware enthusiasts agree that Sony's PS4 does indeed have a slight technical edge over Microsoft's Xbox One. However, if you asked Alan Bowman of the Halo-makers sales and marketing department, he would tell you that that kind of number crunching is a somewhat useless proposition. When speaking to GamePlanet, he contends that the competing spec configurations offer a "fairly marginal difference. The purists are gonna argue the toss, but I think it comes down to the games." With tons of exclusive titles and DLC coming to Xbox platforms first, he believes its their system that offers the single greatest value proposition to consumers.

In addition to savings, Browman also spoke on the importance of attracting casual gamers. He notes that Xbox One's current audience is largely male hardcore players, but he hopes that that will change over time as the console evolves to become more user-friendly. In essence, he admits that "Gamers are willing to spend time configuring things, but someone who just wants to watch TV is not." Microsoft hopes to eventually bring that added layer of all-encompassing simplicity to their growing platform.
