Microsoft has confirmed that all Xbox One games will require mandatory installation onto the system's hard drive and, to install the same disc onto another user's drive, a fee must be paid. Individual games will be tied to Xbox Live accounts, Microsoft said, meaning that the software giant can detect whether a game has been sold to a retailer and repurchased, or handed from one friend to another. In such instances, the second user must pay a fee. "On the new Xbox, all game discs are installed to the HDD to play," a Microsoft representative told Wired. The company added that, once discs are installed on the hard drive, games can be played without a disc being in the tray. The Wired article then elaborates: "What follows naturally from this is that each disc would have to be tied to a unique Xbox Live account, else you could take a single disc and pass it between everyone you know and copy the game over and over. Since this is clearly not going to happen, each disc must then only install for a single owner." It added: "Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc." Microsoft did not disclose what the second-user fee would amount too, and did not clarify further on the matter. The article claims that there is no sweeping 'always-online' requirement for future Xbox One games Source - CVG
Hopefully it's a small enough fee that it won't matter, but knowing Microsoft I don't think that's happening...
Q: Will Xbox One allow players to trade in, purchase and play pre-owned games? A: We are designing Xbox One to enable customers to trade in and resell games. We’ll have more details to share later.
If games are linked to accounts, then how will gamestop even be able to function? Not only does this news make a large amount of gamers furious and not want to buy the new console, if this entire thing is true then gamestop will fail. Not to mention that the new gen xbox will not have backwards compatibility, and that quite honestly is the most infuriating thing about the new sh*tbox
confirmed untrue https://twitter.com/XboxSupport3/sta...53544152334337 https://twitter.com/XboxSupport3/sta...32167127019520 https://twitter.com/XboxSupport3/sta...24786410278912
If this allows friends to use one game disc to play on 2 different consoles on-line with a SMALL additional fee, this could be good.
Overall I'd have to agree with the previous post. It looks like an Xbox One is not in my future, at any price. Backward compatibility is a must. This a why I didn't buy a PS3.
its not possible for a backwards compatablility with all the new specs and hard ware changes its not possible.
its not possible for a backwards compatablility with all the new specs and hard ware changes its not possible. It is possible but only if the games were to be re-released for Xbox One's architecture. But that makes it a new game  Sent from my LT18i
Honestly, I'll only buy it when a jTag/RGH is made for it, I like having customization. And Xbox bans me too much
