Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 might not be the only Castlevania game in town if comments from Konami's Head of UK Studio Dave Cox are to be believed. Apparently, the high-definition assets for upcoming Nintendo 3DS game Castlevania: Mirror of Fate are currently residing on a computer at developer MercurySteam, the good folks behind the modern Castlevania titles.

As a result, Cox said that the team would "absolutely" consider releasing an upgraded version of Castlevania: Mirror of Fate for Xbox 360 should the 3DS version enjoy a bit of success.

"We created everything in high definition - all the textures, all the levels, high-poly models, everything - and we kind of shrunk it all down into the 3DS," Cox explained. "Then we lost bones from characters, you know, we dropped the resolution of the textures and everything to make it fit. At MercurySteam we have an HD version of the game sitting there in a computer somewhere."

So that means Konami would like to release an upgraded HD version for home consoles, right? "Absolutely, yeah. We would consider it," he said. However, an exclusivity deal with Nintendo could put the brakes on such plans, at least for the time being. Still, it's happening this May with Resident Evil: Revelations, so never say never.

"We want as many people to play it as possible. Obviously we have an exclusivity deal with Nintendo right now though and they've been very supportive of the product."

For now then, we'll have to make do with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, scheduled for release later this year. Have a look at it again below in the latest trailer.
