This tutorial will show you how to take apart the Xbox One for the purpose of upgrading the 500GB HDD. Team Xecutor have released a method for upgrading the internal HDD of the Xbox One and I have compiled the information into a full complete guide. Remember that before attempting this it will void the warranty of the Xbox One.

    Things you will need:

    Xbox One ( doy )
    Small plastic prying tool
    T9 Torx screwdriver
    Replacement HDD
    Xbox One HDD Tools

So lets get started shall we:

    Step 1 :

Take a small plastic prying tool and gently lift the bottom end grill

    Step 2 :

Using the same pry tool loosen up the clips that hold the top and bottom case together

    Step 3 :

You will need to remove the wifi board

    Step 4:

Detach the small speaker from the chassis with your fingers.

    Step 5 :

There are eight 64 mm T9 Torx screws securing the upper metal shield to the chassis.

    Step 6 :

Once you remove the shield from the chassis you should now be feasting your eyes upon the inner belly of the beast..

    Step 7 :

Finally removing the drive from the mobo

Any HDD over 500GB in size, you can format it for use with you're Microsoft Xbox One console.

    Instructions

All of this must be done as root! If you are not familiar with linux you should do this on a livecd or usb booted system.

Connect your HDD Note its name , E.G sda, sdb etc...

Run the script with the device name as the first parameter
It will give warnings about missing partitions but you need to write a file with commands to create said missing partitions.
    Run the created script
Copy the correct files to the newly created partitions
    Unmount the newly created partitions
    Run the main script again

    Putting it back together

When you put the new HDD in your console for the first time and boot up, the console will go the the green "Xbox One" screen, pause for a second or two, then shut down.
Boot the console again. This time it should pause at the green screen for a while longer, then go to a black screen for even longer. It can take several minutes before anything happens after this, the xbox is automatically creating temporary files during this time.
If you copied everything correctly, it WILL go to the dashboard eventually, just be patient!

    What is linux?

    Wait for a windows version

These can be gotten off your original HDD easily

Team Xecutor are working on a Windows app - maybe integrating with the already established HDD Hacker Tool that was used for the 360 or something standalone. Stay Tuned

Hopefully an update will fix issues with not knowing how much space remains on Xbone HDD and the ability to use USB stick for storage.
