Click on the apple icon, in the top left corner, and then click on about this mac, and it should say Processor, and memory with info displayed beside the text.

Turn off the computer, and then when booting, you should get the option for bootcamp or macosx.

This part really doesn't matter then, do you have the box, or know what model and year it is?

Okay then boot mac osx, and click on the apple icon in the top left corner, and give me the info I asked for in the first place, and then click on "More info..." and it should tell you the year, and model.

Is it a white macbook, or a silver macbook unibody(it will say macbook on the black part of the screen), or a macbook pro?

Yeah, turn off your macbook, and then remove the back cover, make sure you've unplugged the power adapter, and then unplug the battery on the inside of the mb, remove the ram carefully, and then put the new ram in, and when it inserts you should hear a "pop" or "snap" I did the same thing on my mbp boosted it to 16gb! :)
