EA is developing an “Assassin’s Creed-style” open world action game and former Ubisoft producer Jade Redmond is heading up the project.
Speaking yesterday at the UBS Global Technology Conference in San Francisco, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said that the company is moving in on what he calls the “largest genre of gaming”.
"We've never really operated in the largest genre of gaming, and that's the action genre," said Jorgensen. "That's the Assassin's Creed-style games; more open-world, more single-play versus multiplayer. It's not been an area that we've operated in.
"We recently hired Jade Raymond, who was behind the Assassin's Creed franchise for Ubisoft and she will be building an action genre for us through a studio we're building out in Montreal right now,” he continued. “So a lot of excitement around the action genre."
Last month, EA Studios boss Patrick Soderlund outlined the company’s intentions to IGN, saying, "If you look at the biggest segment in our industry, which is action, we don't have a lot.”
“EA is not known to make gigantic action games like Assassin's Creed or Batman or GTA or those types of games that are really big. The strategic direction that we put in motion is to expand our portfolio more into that segment, to see what can we bring to gamers that maybe hasn't been done before."
Jade Redmond left Ubisoft last year after over a decade working as a producer on the Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell series. She’s heading up a new EA studio called Motive, based in Montreal, which will be developing the series.
It has already been announced that Motive Studios is working on a Star Wars game, with former Uncharted writer and creative director Amy Hennig taking the equivalent role on the project. The studio also says it intends to create brand new IP.
It’s likely that the open-world action game EA is working on falls into the camp of new IP, but let’s entertain the other possibility for a moment. Maybe, just maybe, EA is working on an open-world Star Wars game written and directed by the talent behind Uncharted and produced by the talent behind Assassin’s Creed.

Great share, Smoker. I am a fan of the Creed series and am always happy to hear new things being worked on for it.

Also, gave it a promotion to the HP.
