EA games have announced that they are going to be shutting down servers for 50 of their games. This is nothing new and is actually common practive for companies to close servers of older games, usually this happens when games drop below a certain threshold typically under 1% of peak online players across all titles and it’s not longer feasible for the company to maintain the servers. This case is a little different however, as all of the games getting axed are part of the GameSpy platform, which hosted online services for a number of EA games for several years, the closure of which resulted in servers being shut down.
