Troubled DVD rental chain Blockbuster will close 72 out of its 264 stores in the UK and cut 452 jobs after it went into administration for a second time in October. Its administrators, Moorfields Corporate Recovery, said the move was not an "easy decision to make". The news was likely to be "extremely upsetting" to staff, they said. Moorfields said Blockbuster had faced a period of poor trading performance across rental and retail sales. They added: "We must reiterate that, as part of our attempts to turn around the business, today's decision is necessary if parts of Blockbuster are to be saved and a buyer found." Blockbuster is one of many High Street brands under pressure lately, particularly from online competitors. Camera chain Jessops has gone into administration; music and DVD group HMV has closed 66 stores; and electrical chain Comet closed last year. The news comes after Blockbuster US said it will close 300 stores across North America. Source BBC News.
Mine shut last week. Only shop that sold consoles for 60 miles. Managed to get my Day One edition from Microsoft
My local Blockbuster closed in December last year, it was the nearest movie/game rental store for miles. It was a shame to see it go, as they were selling off boxes of dvd's at insane discounted prices. They said everything had to go Such a shame really, as they did have some really good offers on, now and again. But with the online competition like Netflix etc, they have no chance of surviving in this economy.
Mines still open but most of the shelves are empty went it earlier today most dvds are 50p, even most of the new releases are 3quid
Well I had this game since I was about 11 (Im 16 now) from my local blockbuster and we owed like 300 and something dollars because it was so overdue and luckily it closed. lol Idk what to do with the game.
