One of the big new Battlefield 4 features is the Commander mode. One player per team plays as the commander, where he leads his team in battle and can give orders, send supplies, initiate missile strikes, and more. So far, the Battlefield 4 Commander was only confirmed for the PC and next gen systems — PS4 and Xbox One. Now DICE has confirmed (via a new interview) that the Commander will be available in current generation consoles, the PS3 and Xbox 360. As with the PC and next-gen platforms, the Commander won’t count towards the overall player count, so current gen will support 24 players + 2 commanders = 26 players overall. The Commander in Battlefield 4 won’t play with the rest of the team like in previous versions. Instead, he will only have a top-down map view where he can give orders to squads, send supplies, and more. The more control points a team has, the more weapons and tools the Commander has at his disposal. Some of the weapons include Tomahawk missile strike and an AC-130 gunship. Commanders don’t count towards the overall player count, so Battlefield 4 technically supports 66 players — 33 players per team (with Commander included).
