This tutorial will show you how to easily upgrade you're PS4 hard drive from a 500gb 2.5-inch hard drive and replace it with solid-state drive.

Surprisingly neither the Xbox One or the PS4 shipped with an SSD but instead opted for mechanical hard drive. Fear not though because upgrading to either a larger mechanical HDD or a SSD is an easy operation.

    So lets get stuck in:

    Things you will need:

    Replacement SSD or HDD

    Philips screwdriver

    The Upgrade:

Slide off the shiny portion of the PS4 top off. Gently slide it toward you and lift off.

Now you will see a screw that has the X,Y,Z,Triangle symbols on it.
    Remove that screw.

Now simply remove the drive from the console.
Remove and replace the drive from the caddy.

Replace the shiny portion on the console that you removed.

Now you will need to download the system update:

    Download Firmware : 1.50

You will need to install this on your PS4 using a FAT 32-formatted USB drive (1GB or larger), which will put Sony’s operating system on the blank drive.

On your USB stick and create one folder named PS4, then another labeled UPDATE.

Download the patch from either the Playstation site here , or from the link below and place it in the " UPDATE" FOLDER.

Turn off the power of your PS4™ system completely.
Check that the power indicator is not lit. If the power indicator is lit up in orange, touch the power button on the PS4™ system for at least 7 seconds (until the system beeps a second time).
Connect the USB storage device that the update file is saved on to your PS4™ system, and then touch the power button for at least 7 seconds.
The PS4™ system starts in safe mode
    Select [Reinstall System Software].
Follow the screens to complete the update.

If your PS4™ system does not recognize the update file, check that the folder names and file name are correct. Enter the folder names and file name in single-byte characters using uppercase letters.

You should now be good to go. If you upgraded to SSD you should notice a big speed difference. Some reports say that it almost halves load times from installed games.

What are the benefits of an SDD? I've heard it has slightly faster load times, but the upgrade doesn't sound very cost effective to me.
