We're still a good three months away from the release of Halo 4, but that hasn't stopped developer 343 Industries from looking ahead to Halo 5. Lead designer Scott Walker discussed how 343 plans to take full advantage of next generation hardware and technologies to help the next Halo reach its full potential.
In an interview with the Independent, Walker talked about the benefits of working as a first-party developer with Microsoft. "[We] have the advantage of working for a publisher and first party development, and if things happen we would certainly want to take advantage of those things," Walker said. "There’s always kind of a careful balancing act between what you decide to improve upon, what you have that you think is really good, what’s the great mixture of that to put you in the best position to be successful as a team."
"Our current development is all centred around the Xbox 360 and trying to harness everything we can get out of that box, so everything you’re seeing is sort of custom built for the 360 experience," he continued. "Obviously depending on what happens and develops with our company, we’ll try to develop our technology and take advantage of it."
Though Walker delicately dances around the subject of 343 having seen what kind of tech is coming, that they will be in a great position to get the most out of a potential new Xbox is good news for Halo fans. In fact, when questioned as to whether or not 343 will "kick some a**" during the next generation, Walker replied emphatically, "Yeah, absolutely."
