I have an older stock refurbished 360 that quit reading games. It will read any movies or music disc but no games. I since bought a new 360S that I play on Live and would like to mod the old one to make back ups of my games. Would I be wasting my time since the old drive will not read games?
Sounds like it has the wrong "Drive Key" on the disc drive, does it say "Play DVD" rather than play game? If so it's no good unless it's got a really old dashboard!
The dive just says open tray after trying to load the game. The dash was up to date for February of this year.
You should try to clean the lens just in case it's dirty that's a common problem, other than that you can always get a new drive and flash your key from the old to new.
Open tray error is a pretty simple fix. Sometimes when the drive laser weakens it wont read games but will still read cds. There are tutorials on fixing the open tray error on here. If you cant find one let me know and i will point you in the right direction.
I have one of those disc with the brush on the bottom that I tried to no avail, so I opened it up and used Q-tip and alcohol (done this in the past to a previous 360: since I'm on my 4th one now, and it worked) but still doesn't read games. Thanks for all the help. I think I'm going to look up that open try error. If I can get it fixed I would still like to mod it since I already have a new one to play online. Thank you all, I'll look into that.
I can fix open tray errors if you are interested let me know. If im not in your area then someone there are other trusted members that could help you.
