Hi, my name is Johan and I'm from the Netherlands.

I have been gaming for a long time both on Xbox and PC.

Recently I decided to join Xbox Live (I know, quite late considering I've had my Xbox for years already). However, due to the fact that I am also a PC gamer, I already had a Live account. Naturally, I wanted to add this account to my offline Xbox profile, but unfortunately Microsoft does not allow that (for whatever stupid reason).

Now I am not afraid of a bit of 'handiwork' so I tried to figure out how to achieve what I wanted. I came across the program Modio and after several tries I got it working the way I wanted: all my gamesaves and achievements on one profile together with my existing Live account. Or so I thought... after about a week, Halo 4 (and as it turned out other games as well) started to complain it could not save to my profile.

I saw this error on my first attempt with Modio as well, but since everything worked (or at least seemed to work) on my later attempt, I have no idea what's causing the error now.

And that brings me to why I am here: I want to learn more about modding and hopefully find a way to properly get my 'old' savegames working with my Xbox Live account.

Well, that's it for now. A bit of a long story perhaps, but hey, they wanted something more than just 'Hi I'm new!' :p
For those of you who are still here: if you have any tips or suggestions on topics to read, please let me know!

    hello and welcome.

to start off if all you are trying to do is take you saved games from profile A and set them up to profile B then it is simply a rehash and resign of your A gamesaves to B

take a look here if you don't know how to rehash/resign saves Click Me

now if you are trying to give Profile B all of the achievements from Profile A then you would need a profile editor such as Le Fluffie/Horizon/eXProfile Editor etc. This is much more risky as far and getting you account banned from live but it is very easy to do.

if games keep complaining about saving to your profile then you will need to recover the profile from xbox live. if it is an offline profile then you are pretty much at a loss but since it's offline delete, re-create, and use achievement unlocker to get back your lost status and remember to always backup your save/profile before editing.

    thanks for the welcome (everyone)

I am indeed considering to simply take saved games from profile A (the offline profile) to profile B (my Xbox Live profile). The reason is that my achievements (except for a handful) were actually synched with my Live profile when I tried to merge it with my offline profile using Modio. It would be a bit tedious (we're talking a couple dozen games here), but I guess not too hard. What I'd still like to know then is: can you continue to earn achievements with these rehashed/resigned savegames?

Also the issue of getting banned from Xbox Live is an interesting one. I know that by doing anything at all to my profile means taking a risk, but sometimes in life you need to take some risk... I guess I can always go back to an offline account and/or a 'clean' Live account. Though, considering I have not touched any game info in my profile, I'm hoping of course that I won't get banned at all.

However, will rehashing/resigning all my old savegames increase the risk of getting banned, i.e. can your xbox /microsoft tell by some other means that the savegame did not originally belong to that profile? If not, or if that risk is at least small compared to what I have already done, I suppose I have my answer already of what to do: start some rehashing :)

a rehash/resign of gamesaves it pretty safe. the only risk is if the game is load and pop. some games will pop achievements if you do one more thing to meet that requirement. for instance if profile a has a achievement for killing 1000000 baddies and you are long past that, sometimes loading that save on profile b and killing 1 baddy will pop the cheevo for killing 1000000 even though you may only have 15 or however many killed. doesn't happen too much but there are games that do it.
